Did you dress up today? See any good costumes?
I'm Anglican, so I theoretically celebrate All Souls, not Halloween. Unfortunately many churches no longer hold services on that day, and besides, we're sojourning at a Baptist (I know!) church here in East Van. On Saturday I went to the Parade of the Lost Souls with Courtney, and CP and I wore some feathered masks from Value Village. The stilt-walkers had some amazing costumes, especially the ones dressed as stylized ravens with feathers on their beaks and backs and bones painted on their bodies. I'll try to post some photos in a bit.
I've been really trying to get organized with cooking again--it's pretty important because CP and I are both away from the house for so much of the day. If I'm not organized, we end up buying sushi from the place a few blocks away (cheaper than McDonald's!) because we're out of time and/or the right groceries. One thing I've started doing is making up double or triple batches of pancake batter and keeping it in the fridge. Then I just cook up 6 or 7 pancakes in the morning and it's really fast. I never knew that you could keep batter in the fridge like that. I thought the rising agent would lose its power or something. This week we have banana-chocolate chip pancakes. Tomorrow I'm going to make some cornmeal batter so it's got more fibre. When we have really ripe bananas I like to use them to substitute for some of the eggs in the batter. One banana or so can substitute for one egg and it tastes yummy.

You scored as Emergent/Postmodern. You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don't think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

PS: Is that Brian McLaren?
I'm excited because THE GAK is coming to live with us soon. I hope he likes me. I know he likes Captain Poetry. We will have to hide his clothes. You know, Gak sounds like Jack. Maybe I can still fulfil my ultimate goal of having a cat named Jack Bauer.
We've been watching the second season of House. It's so awesome. The episodes where House and Wilson were room-mates were just priceless. And the quips about barnacles. You know what I mean.
Life hasn't slowed down for a second around here, but it's all good. I'm already an old pro at doing homework on the bus (I read and critique the pieces for my workshops), and I've had pieces workshopped in two of my three workshop classes already. The people in my program are just amazing. Everyone manages to be insightful, supportive, and challenging, all at the same time. My job looks like it's going to be super fun. We went swimming at the pool during free hours, which felt sooooo good after a long day of sitting and carrying a heavy backpack. It's far nicer than the pool at UVic--there's natural light coming in through the windows, for one thing.
Captain Poetry wants me to watch 24 with him. Jack Bauer says WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR? DROP YOUR WEAPON!
